Kit Tight

the sink drain nut.. how tight is tight enough?
i installed a new faucet and sink drain kit this weekend. there arent any leaks, but i noticed the instructions said to get the nut tight enough so that the rubber gasket is flush with the bottom of the sink basin. i never could get it that tight. it squished it some but its not completely flush. how tight should this big nut be? also should there be any sealant used on it?
There is a wrench you can buy that is for tightening the drain nut. The way the sink should be tested for leaks is to place the stopper in the drain & fill the sink 3/4 of the way full, let set for several minutes.
Did you put putty around the drain before placing it into the hole in the sink? If you did and the rubber is against the bottom of the sink, holds water you will be ok.
